Cheryl

Cheryl was very distressed and feeling alone.

A son with autism, a husband with cancer, and no local friends or family left her feeling like the weight of the world was on her shoulders.

The only income she and her husband have are the Disability Benefits they receive due to their son’s autism. With such limited funds, home repairs and additions are out of the question. She called Love INC because she needed a ramp at her house for her husband’s wheelchair. Due to the cancer he is a fall risk. It had gotten to the point where every time she needed to get him out of the house she had to call the Fire Department.

As the Clearinghouse Volunteer listened to her story, she learned that some home repair was needed in addition to the ramp. The skylight in her roof was leaking and there was a leak around the shower. Site Visit Volunteers met Cheryl at her home to determine exactly what the repairs would entail.

The wheelchair ramp was built by Carpenters for Christ, a ministry of New Life Church in Fruitland Park. The Handyman Ministry at North Lake Presbyterian Church did the repairs to the skylight and ceiling around it. To fix the leak in the shower they replaced the faucet spout. Their home is now a safer place to live, in addition to being wheelchair accessible.

There is one body, but it has many parts. ~ 1 Corinthians 12:12a. So it is with you! Many volunteers with many different skills and interests came together to help Cheryl.
