Darla

Darla has been volunteering her time at Love In the Name of Christ for quite a while.

She works directly with the Transformational Ministry Classes, Journey In the Name of Christ (Journey INC). Journey clients earn points from program participation. They can use these points to request income supplements. These are things such as gas, meals, personal care items, clothing, and even furniture. Darla is responsible for fulfilling the material requests from week to week for the Journey clients.

One recent class, a client requested a sewing machine. This client wanted to fill her time with a constructive hobby, and possibly be able to make items for purchase. Unfortunately, she knew a sewing machine was out of her budget. On the back of her request form, she merely asked if there was one at Love INC.

The next morning as Darla was going through the requests from class, she turned this particular request over and saw what was written. The biggest smile spread across her face. Earlier that morning she was just thinking about how she wanted to donate her personal sewing machine to Love INC. She rationalized that she just didn’t have the time to sew anymore. Everything was with it, including the original manual (which the client requested as well). “It was such a God thing,” Darla exclaimed. She knew it was a sign that her sewing machine was meant for this Journey client. And that’s exactly where that sewing machine made its new home.

That’s how God does it, isn’t it? Love INC not only encourages the positive impact on clients, but faithful volunteers are also impacted. Their invested time, emotions, and effort culminates in these little joyful God moments which provide strength and encouragement to stay the course in what can sometimes be challenging work.
