Mitchell + Katie

There are times when God moves so obviously, it is impossible to miss. The story you’re about to read is one such situation.

In January, Love INC received a donated vehicle, a precious resource in our area where transportation, along with affordable housing, pose significant challenges for clients. With no public transportation and no money to either purchase a vehicle or replace an ailing one, this is frequently an issue that we legitimately have no solution for. (If you have any solutions to this, email me and let’s get coffee!)

When a vehicle is donated, there are a few decisions that need to be made. It has to be evaluated and then fixed, if it is worth fixing. Once it’s fixed, the decision is – who will get the vehicle? And what will their contribution be?

When this vehicle came in, it was evaluated. It was determined that it was worth fixing and repairs were made. In the meantime, the consideration and prayer process was started, to decide who the car would be offered to.

Many factors contribute to this decision. Clients actively engaged in Journey over a period of time are the primary consideration. Beyond that, there has to be a need, and a willingness to contribute something to obtain the vehicle. As prayer and consideration continued, one family became the obvious choice.

Katie, juggling full-time work and schooling, aims to enhance her skills in order to support the family in a more substantial way. Mitchell, at 34, recently regained his driver’s license after its loss at 19. At the same time the vehicle was being donated to Love INC, one of their vehicles broke down and needed an entire engine overhaul in order to be drivable again. This type of repair was out of their reach, and they were down to one vehicle, with a life that does not support sharing one vehicle.

God’s plan and provision opened a path so wide in this situation that all we had to do was step onto it. The vehicle was offered to them, with the details of their contribution making it within their reach. What could have been a destabilizing event, their car breakdown, was transformed into an opportunity for stability and growth. God had a different plan this time.

Maybe you didn’t donate that car. But your prayer, time, and financial investment provide the space and opportunity for this to take place. Your investment fuels the mission, enabling stories like Mitchell and Katie’s to unfold. Ultimately, the goal is that they know they are loved and valued, by you and by God.
