One of the effects of Parkinson’s Disease can be difficulty walking.

Donna’s husband Randy has Parkinson’s Disease and has suffered with the effects of it for some time, including difficulty walking. Randy was using a motorized scooter to get around, which was very helpful.

At the end of last year, his motorized scooter broke down. Donna and Randy took it to see about repairs but it was too old and the repairs were too expensive.

They went through their general doctor and a neurologist to try to get a prescription and the paperwork completed for a Hoveround. The delays they experienced were numerous, and spanned a period of several months. In the meantime, Randy was unable to get out of the house, attend church, or be otherwise social as he had been able to before.

Both Donna and Randy felt discouraged. Randy’s mental health deteriorated to the point that the neurologist wanted to put him on medication for depression. Donna was beside herself, watching her husband decline and unable to make the pieces come together to help him. They felt alone, helpless, and frustrated.

BUT GOD.

In March, things began to happen that only God could do. Donna attended a seminar with a friend, and they sat near a Love INC volunteer. As Donna was updating her friend on the events surrounding the difficulties getting the Hoveround, the volunteer couldn’t help but overhear, and feel compassion for Donna and her husband. The volunteer told Donna about the Medical Ministry housed at First Baptist Church of Summerfield and offered to see if there was a scooter available for her husband. Donna eagerly agreed. The volunteer did not immediately find one, but within a short amount of time a scooter was donated. The volunteer contacted Donna to let her know it was here, and she was so excited she was almost in disbelief. The next day a neighbor brought Randy to Love INC to pick it up.

To say the scooter changed his life is not an overstatement. He has mobility again. He has been able to leave the house, go down to the mailbox, get to church, and socialize again. His depression has completely lifted. Donna expressed her thanks enthusiastically, “THANK YOU…Since my husband got the power scooter he is no longer depressed because he can get around now…Blessings to you. GOD IS GOOD ALL THE TIME.”
