McKayla is a single mother with two children.

McKayla first reached out to Love INC nine years ago, and her life has undergone some drastic changes since then. The first three times she called, she and her husband needed help with bills. Since Love INC does not provide money for bills, she was referred to agencies and resources that do. Clearinghouse volunteers and staff also offered budget counseling, but McKayla never took advantage of the offer.

McKayla reached out in a more desperate situation than ever in 2019. She and her husband had both just finished a drug treatment program. They were living in their van and trying to find a place to live. Their children were in foster care in another state. They were hoping to get their life back together and have their children return to live with them. The Clearinghouse referred them to local shelters or family housing for help with their housing needs.

More recently, McKayla called again. She has finally gotten stability in her life. Unfortunately, she and her husband had to end their marriage. However, she’s clean and sober and her children are about to come live with her again. She has a great job that will allow her to provide for her family. She did need help with some specific things in order to have the home ready to receive her children.

Thanks to your generous donations, the Furniture and Appliance Ministry delivered some beds, and a table and chairs. Now the children will have places to sleep, eat and do their homework. McKayla is hoping that the next she calls, she can report the happy news of her children being in her care.
