Alice

Meet Alice.

She is a hard working grandmother who recently lost her husband. This left her alone with 8 grandchildren to raise, ranging in age from one to 13.

Alice fell behind on her rent. Fortunately her landlord is working with her and is allowing her to make payments to get caught up. Her daughters live in another state and send money to help her out. With this help and her new job at Popeyes, Alice is able to make enough to cover her monthly bills. Like many of our clients, however, there is not much left over for extras.

Alice reached out to Love INC to request a couch and some beds. The Clearinghouse Volunteer who answered the phone listened to her story with compassion and prayed with her. After her intake and verification process was complete, Site Visit Volunteers met her at her home. During the site visit, they discovered that six girls were sleeping on a toddler bed and a mattress. The living room had some overstuffed chairs that she found on the side of the road. They were very worn out.

Alice’s grandchildren have lost so much. There is nothing that can be done to fix that for them. What was done, however, was to help their living environment be more comfortable. The Furniture and Appliance Ministry was delighted to deliver a clean sleeper sofa. This served the dual purpose of extra sleeping space in addition to a nice place to sit in the living room. They also provided bedding and extra blankets for all the beds.

In order to provide Alice and her grandchildren with some help for some of their other needs, they were referred to the Personal Care Ministry at Faith Presbyterian Church and to the Angel’s Touch Clothing Pantry at Lady Lake United MethodistChurch. Access to these two ministries gives Alice room in her monthly budget because she is able to use the funds she would normally use for cleaning supplies, hygiene items, and clothing toward something else the kids or family might need.

Your involvement is vital for families like Alice’s to not just survive in the face of hardship, but to thrive!
